In 2014, the band that would be known as Space Comma Space was formed in a high school in South Jakarta. The band consists of singer-songwriter Adil Akbar and guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, and all-around nice guy Adiguna Palinrungi. Sharing a common love for the many sub-genres of rock and pop, the two bonded over the album Transformer by Lou Reed. It was this album that led to the formation of the band, as both had been in different bands before but never felt that they were able to seriously channel their creative energies. In this friendship, the two found what they had never realized they lacked, a musical partner and soulmate who could play off their individual talents.

Unfortunately, upon graduating high school in 2015, the two were separated when Adil left for New York for college. It was this that led to the lack of activity from the band, as the two only had the interspersed summers to meet and compose music. Under the fierce heat of the Jakartan summer sun, the two honed their skills and songwriting chops, composing a large library of songs as they waited for a chance to properly debut.

After six years of silent preparation and practice, and upon Adil’s return to Jakarta, with their self-described mission of creating “Malleable Pop/rock” and melancholic sensibilities, Space Comma Space set out to create music that touches on life, death, and everything in between.
